August 2017 Announcements (Dr. Chavez)


Delta College classes at Estrellita:  College courses are now available in Galt.  Please join Delta College as they kick off this new partnership on Saturday, August 19, 2-5pm, at Estrellita.  Delta staff will be on hand to help with the application process and to answer any questions.  August 26, 2-5 pm, will be Assessment Day.


DISTRICT COLLEGE NIGHT: Sept 28, 2017 @ Liberty Ranch HS.  6:30-8pm in Cafeteria.  Simultaneous Spanish session in Library.  Local partners: UC, CSU, community college, and private college/university will be in attendance to give information about their respective schools.


CASH FOR COLLEGE WORKSHOP: Oct 26, 2017 @Galt HS. 4-7pm in Computer Labs 94 and 95. Bring 2016 tax information for yourself and parents. We will have financial aid personnel to assist you in filling out the FAFSA


ASVAB: Military skills assessment but there is no obligation to join the military.  Will be offered at both schools at 8:15 am in the Library.  Questions, see Dr. Chavez. You may sign up with the Guidance Technicians: Lorena (GHS), Alondra (LRHS).  Tests will be administered on: Oct 13 (LR), Oct 27 (GHS)


Fee waivers: SAT and ACT fee waivers available for those who qualify. Any questions, see Dr. Chavez.  Fee waivers are also available from the Guidance Technicians:  Lorena German (Galt) and Alondra Munoz (Liberty Ranch)


FBI Teen Academy: For high school juniors interested in a career with the FBI.  Academy will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, 7:30-5pm at the FBI Sacramento Division.  If interested, please fill out the application:   Deadline:  Thursday, Oct. 12 at 4:30pm.  No late applications accepted.  For questions, see Dr. Chavez


Scholarships: Wendy’s Heisman Scholarship.  3.0 gpa, participation in at least 1 school sport, and leadership.  Apply: . Phase 1 of application is due Oct 2, 3:00pm PT.  Don’t delay if you are interested!



College Visits: Questions, see Dr. Chavez.  You can sign up with our Guidance Technicians: Lorena German (GHS) or Alondra Munoz (LRHS).  You can also sign up with Mrs. Siegalkoff in the Library at GHS.

CSU applications: Oct 1-Nov 30

UC applications: Nov 1-30

Private colleges/universities: varies. Look at website for deadlines and details.  Some will use Common Application but not everyone is a member of this service.

SAT/ACT: no later than DECEMBER of senior year

Community Colleges: applications starting late February

FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid): Oct 1, 2017-Mar 2, 2018. **additional workshops tba**
